" A T M M A C H I N E S "
There is great debate of who is the creator and inventor of the ATM machine, with it's original roots which claims have been stemmed from the United States to England, and even Scotland.
In 1939 Luther George Simjian had the idea to build the Bankmatic Automated Teller Machine, probably his most famous invention. Despite the scepticism of the banks, he registered 20 patents for it and developed a number of features and principles that can still be found in today's ATMs, including their name. That same year, Simijiam did pursuade the bank to install his ATM for a 6-month trial period but at that time there was not enough bank members using the ATM, so it was removed. Today, we would think of his invention more as a mechanical dispenser thanks to the next inventor John Adrian Shepherd Barron.
In 1967 John Adrian Shepherd-Barron received the Order of the British Empire in the 2005 New Year's Honours list for services to banking as "inventor of the automatic cash dispenser". The Shepherd-Barron dispenser actually predated the introduction of the plastic card with its magnetic strip: the machines used special cheques which had been impregnated with a radioactive compound of carbon-14, which was detected and matched against the personal identification number (PIN) entered on a keypad. A proposed PIN length of 6 digits was rejected and 4 digits chosen instead, because it was the longest string of numbers that his wife could remember.
In 1968 there was a card-eating-machine which had a temporary card intended to be kept by the machine. In 1969 magstripe cards were invented. In 1971 there was the first full-function bank ATM. In 1973 ATM's sold for about $30,000. In 1974 the Online ATM's were introduced which connected machines to the modern-day networks which today we are all familiar with.
In 1996 the number of ATM machines grew nationally from 110,000 to nearly 230,000 by the end of the century and now the number is approaching 500,000 with over 80% belonging to the private sector. The ATM Industry Association states that there will be 1,000,000 ATMs in the United States by the year 2020.

Thanks to the collective works of these founding inventors, A BUSINESS STORE is able to offer hundreds of highly technical but very affordable Floor-Mounted and Wall-Mounted ATM Cash machines for your business. We also offer Script ATM machines which are credit card terminals using the Debit Network and a Script Feature for the cardholders to receive cash straight from the tellers and this eliminates the need for a larger Cash ATM machine.
